NRG is our Traditional Chinese Medicine tonic for energy, a genuinely different approach than caffeine or sugar, and one we haven't seen anything else quite like on the market.

One tonic, a lot of different people reaching for it:

  • Formulated by Dr. Kang, a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor
  • No caffeine, no sugar, and traditionally not associated with jitters or a crash
  • Reached for by busy moms, working professionals, athletes, and anyone weaning off caffeine
  • Best used as a long-term tonic, not just an occasional pick-me-up
  • Trusted for over 30 years

"I was abusing the coffee and still feeling tired. I switched to this, and it even got me through the caffeine withdrawals."- Kim Schmutzler.
Individual results may vary.

NRG is a Traditional Chinese Medicine tonic formula, created by Dr. Kang, a TCM doctor, using twelve herbs traditionally understood to strengthen and balance the body's own organ systems rather than force energy the way caffeine or sugar does. In TCM terms, it's considered an adaptogenic tonic: if the body is depleted, it traditionally helps rebuild reserves, and if the body is wired and anxious, the same formula traditionally helps it settle.*

We hear from a genuinely wide range of people who rely on this one: busy, stressed, and tired moms who need to function without a crash later, working professionals getting through a long afternoon, athletes building natural energy without stimulants, and people specifically trying to wean off caffeine or sugar, since NRG can help ease that transition.*

Like most TCM tonics, NRG works best with consistent, long-term use rather than as an occasional fix. Many people find a rhythm like five days on and two days off works well.*

A couple of things to know:

  • Not recommended during a cold or flu, or if you've been diagnosed with hypertension.
  • A few of these herbs are traditionally avoided during pregnancy in larger amounts. If you're pregnant or nursing, use the minimum suggested amount and check with your provider first.
    • Dr. Liang, an herbal pharmacology expert and OB/GYN doctor in China, has used this formula with pregnant women for many years. Use the minimum suggested amounts and consult with your health care provider.
  • If you're on blood pressure, diabetes, or antidepressant medication, check with your provider, since a couple of these herbs can interact.
  • Typically taken in the morning or early afternoon, not after 5 pm, since it may affect sleep if taken too late in the day.
