Herb of the day ... Alfalfa

When some people hear of Alfalfa, this is what comes to their mind.

It means a little more to us. Alfalfa, or Medicago sativa, is a natural detoxifier. It has traditionally been used by herbalists for conditions such as arthritis, bursitis, and gout. Studies have also shown it may help to lower cholesterol.

This is one of the most nutrient-rich herbs out there. It contains natural fluorides, which may help with tooth decay. You'll also find eight essential digestive enzymes and eight essential amino acids of protein, and a high chlorophyll content in this plant. Additionally, it is rich in Beta-Carotene, minerals, trace elements, and vitamins A, B-1, B-6, B-12, C, D, E, K, Biotin, Folic Acid, Niacin, and Pantothenic Acid. Minerals found include calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc.

The sun-dried hay of alfalfa (also known as Lucerne) has been found to be a source of vitamin D. Ongoing research is examining levels of vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 in alfalfa shoots; these results are awaiting verification. Making it one of the only plant sources of Vitamin D available to us.

We have made the most of this nutrient-rich herb by making it a key ingredient in our herbal mineral formulas. Blue Green Minerals and Original Herbal Minerals both have alfalfa as a primary ingredient. It is such a nutrient-rich herb that we had to include it in our herbal multivitamins!

Don't worry, it doesn't taste like horse feed. It actually has a pleasant, mild flavor and blends easily with other herbs. Our herbal multivitamins are delicious and make for a pleasant way to get your nutrients every day

Caution: Not recommended for use by persons on blood-thinning agents.
