Herb of the Month: Elderberry
Posted by TriLight Health on Oct 28th 2025
This month's herb, elderberry, has been attracting attention from both Western and alternative medicine practitioners. We've even seen commercials that it has been added to OTC pharmaceutical products. What Western medicine is now discovering has long been used in traditional healing systems across Europe, North America, and beyond. There's a reason elderberry is so popular this time of the year. They are rich in several vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Vitamin A, iron, antioxidants, flavonoids, and more. Plus, they taste delicious and are versatile.
Traditional Herbal Uses of Elderberry
Sambucus nigra
- Antioxidant
- Cardiac support
- Colds
- Coughs
- Fiber
- Flu
- Immune support
- Respiratory support
- Topically on the skin and hair
- And more
Note- Elderberry must always be used properly prepared, never raw. Those with certain health conditions, especially some autoimmune conditions, and some medications, should not use elderberry —or use it in limited amounts. Always consult with a healthcare provider before trying anything new.
