Herb of the Month: Oregon Grape Root

Herb of the Month: Oregon Grape Root

Posted by TriLight Health on Aug 16th 2025

Oregon Grape root is native to North America. It is frequently used as an alternative to the endangered- and often quite expensive- Goldenseal. There is documented use of this herb by Indigenous people and by early American settlers. Herbalists use it in teas, tinctures, capsules, and poultices. Its flavor is bitter and strong so you'll rarely find it used alone but rather combined with more pleasant herbs. Like Goldenseal, usually a little bit goes a long way, making it an easy herb to add to blends.
