Native to the Eastern US, this plant has now been cultivated around the country. The plant itself is more often referred to as New Jersey tea. In the case of using it for herbal remedies, we're using the beautiful red roots. Isn't it fun when the name of the herb has something to do with its use or characteristics? The root is harvested, dried, and then processed for use by herbalists. This beautiful red root has a wide variety of uses making it popular to add to different herbal preparations. It is most commonly chosen used by herbalists for its strong astringent properties. The flavor can be strong so it is often mixed with other herbs.
