Dong Quai (Female Ginseng): Traditional Uses, Benefits & How to Use It
Female Ginseng is best known as Dong Quai in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its scientific name is Angelica sinensis. The Angelica plant family includes dill, parsley, and carrots. Female Ginseng does somewhat resemble a carrot. This is one of those special herbs that gives us a clue about its use in the name. It has an affinity for the female reproductive system. Some herbalists consider it the best herb for women's health. Not only does it nourish the organs, but it has also been traditionally used to support hormone balance and address menstrual problems. It's most often used internally in teas, tinctures, and capsules.

How we use it-
We use it in-
Female Formula- one of our specials of the month, 10% off until the end of May.
Female Formula is our Cherokee Herbal Medicine Menstrual Support formula. It was created for us by a 7th-generation Cherokee medicine man, Medicine Bear. We've had TriLight families using it for over 35 years and have multiple generations of TriLight women who use it.
This blend is full of herbs that have traditionally been used to help support reproductive organs, a healthy cycle, and menstrual discomfort. It has found a niche among young women just starting their cycle as well as those in the perimenopause stage. Like all of our blends, it tastes delicious!
A unique note of this product is that it functions best when taken as a tonic over a longer time vs a few short doses during the acute phase of discomfort. Our suggested use is 1t/50lbs body weight 2x/day. 1t during the month prior to the period may be taken on occasion. A few days before period day 1, up to 3t/day may be used. More frequent dosing may be used short-term before and during menstruation. Of course, work with your healthcare provider, midwife, or OB/GYN to discuss exact dosing- especially if you have menstrual-health related conditions or concerns.
